Africa supplies much of the world’s natural gum, aloe, and resins. But these high-quality crops are grown in drylands, which suffer from inconsistent rains and pervasive poverty. Non-profit organization NGARA helps African countries that produce natural gum and resins to find sustainable ways of growing, harvesting and marketing them to improve community livelihoods and conserve precious water.
This grant will help the organization increase the number of gum-producing Acacia senegal trees and indigenous aloe plants in Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, and West Pokot Counties in Kenya. This work will connect farmers across the region to new opportunities for income in these growing value chains.
