Seed Savers Network Association (SSN-K) is a national grassroots organization in Kenya, established in 2009, dedicated to conserving agrobiodiversity and strengthening community seed systems to enhance food sovereignty. With 15 years of experience, SSN-K has engaged over 405,000 community members and leads Africa’s largest network of community seedbanks. The organization operates an agroecology learning center and an incubation hub for value addition, and has restored more than 2,500 hectares of degraded land through agroecological approaches. SSN-K is recognized for its innovative integration of restoration, agroecology, and seed systems, effectively linking ecological outcomes with improved community livelihoods.

The proposed project will intensify environmental restoration and promote land degradation neutrality in Mau, Mauche, and Likia areas of Nakuru County, aiming to enhance climate resilience and local livelihoods. The initiative will restore 120 hectares of degraded land by planting 100,000 trees—including a mix of indigenous, fruit, and nitrogen-fixing species—while supporting community nurseries and farmer-led training. It will also conserve 12 kilometers of riverline to improve water services, introduce soil conservation measures, and supply planting materials to riverside communities. Agroecological practices will be integrated through farmer-to-farmer training, establishment of community seedbanks, and support for women and youth enterprise incubation. The project prioritizes youth and women, aiming to improve environmental management, create jobs, enhance food security, and conserve local tree seeds, with regular monitoring and community involvement to ensure sustained impact.
