The Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN) leads a consortium with RBI and REAO, combining expertise in environmental management, community engagement, and sustainable livelihoods. RCCDN oversees coordination, financial management, and reporting, leveraging its experience in managing large-scale restoration projects, including planting over 1.2 million trees and restoring 3,500 hectares. The consortium operates with robust systems for monitoring, evaluation, and stakeholder engagement, and has a proven track record in promoting gender and disability inclusion. RBI and REAO contribute field-level restoration, community mobilization, and capacity building, with notable achievements in tree planting, household support, and environmental education, enhancing the consortium’s ability to deliver impactful restoration and community resilience initiatives.
The proposed project aims to restore degraded landscapes through large-scale agroforestry and fruit tree planting, targeting the establishment and maintenance of 202,000 trees and the sustained growth of at least 169,000 trees. The initiative will improve soil fertility, reduce erosion, conserve water resources, and promote sustainable land management, directly benefiting over 574 households by integrating restoration with food security and economic empowerment. Activities include community mobilization, nursery establishment, hands-on training in restoration techniques, and ongoing monitoring using GIS tools. The project emphasizes community ownership, with local leaders and trained members managing nurseries and tree care, while dedicated field officers and M&E experts ensure high survival rates and adaptive management. By focusing on practical, community-driven restoration and capacity building, the project seeks to enhance ecosystem health, climate resilience, and household livelihoods in the targeted area.
