Organisation de Défense de l'Environnement et le Développement Durable (ODEB)

ODEB is a nonprofit operating in 9 communities in Burundi’s Bubanza Province. Using adaptable and community-based solutions, the organization’s mission is to protect the sustainable management of natural resources within the region. With two guiding principles, urgency and sustainable development, its interventions address water quality, hygiene and sanitation, food security, climate adaptation, and community well-being.

With this grant, ODEB will partner with farmers to restore the banks of the Rusizi River. By planting mango, papaya, and other fruit trees to hold the soil in place, the group will prevent contaminants from flowing into the water. The group will also carry out agroforestry and woodlot interventions.
