The proposed project aims to restore degraded farmland in Rwanda’s Western Province, Rutsiro District, specifically in Boneza Sector, Nkira Cell, Gisiza and Gisoro Villages, by adopting climate-resilient agroforestry systems. The initiative will plant 75,000 trees—including exotic, indigenous, and fruit species—across 250 hectares, integrating them into existing farming systems to enhance biodiversity, food security, and ecosystem health. Activities include community mobilization, nursery establishment, tree planting, and ongoing maintenance, supported by five farmer groups and Community Vigilance Committees. The project also promotes diversified livelihoods through kitchen gardens and savings groups, creates inclusive job opportunities, and builds local capacity in sustainable land management. Continuous monitoring, community-based oversight, and knowledge sharing are embedded to ensure sustainability and integration with local development plans.
