Laikipia Wildlife Forum (LWF) is a non-profit organization with over two decades of experience advancing wildlife conservation and sustainable natural resource management in the Upper Ewaso region of Kenya. LWF’s mission centers on supporting local institutions and communities to achieve a productive and healthy landscape that benefits both people and wildlife. The organization has a strong track record in governance, capacity building, education, water management, tourism, and land restoration, and is recognized for its collaborative approach with stakeholders such as community associations and government agencies.

The proposed project aims to restore 120.4 hectares of degraded land in Laikipia West by 2031 through the planting of 150,000 trees across Shamanek Forest, riparian zones along the Nyahururu River, local schools, and farmland. The initiative will prioritize indigenous and agroforestry species, with activities co-designed and implemented alongside local community groups, schools, and government partners to ensure sustainability and local ownership. Restoration efforts will include community training, conservation education, and livelihood support such as beekeeping and agroforestry, with a focus on inclusivity by engaging women and youth. The project will address challenges like livestock and wildlife browsing through protective measures and monitoring, aiming for a 70% tree survival rate. By increasing tree cover, improving biodiversity, and supporting diversified incomes, the project seeks to enhance ecosystem health, reduce human–wildlife conflict, and strengthen community resilience in Laikipia West.
