Wezesha is a women-led nonprofit based in Kenya with five years of experience advancing climate resilience, ecosystem restoration, and sustainable livelihoods. The organization is dedicated to restoring degraded ecosystems, empowering women and youth, and strengthening community food security through regenerative agroforestry, reforestation, and climate-smart agriculture. Wezesha has built a strong reputation for engaging local communities in tree planting, sustainable land management, and the promotion of indigenous knowledge, equipping people with the skills and partnerships needed to protect their environment and livelihoods. Their community-anchored approach and demonstrated delivery capacity have established them as a credible and effective partner in restoration efforts, particularly in Nakuru County.
The proposed project aims to restore degraded landscapes and enhance biodiversity in and around Logoman and Bahati Forests through integrated forest restoration and agroforestry. Key activities include growing 50,000 trees in Logoman Forest to rehabilitate forest areas, establishing over 22,000 agroforestry and fruit trees on adjacent farms to improve food security and generate income, and installing 200 energy-efficient stoves in 100 nearby households to reduce wood fuel demand and protect young trees. The project will also train local trainers and farmers in soil and water conservation, engage community groups in all stages of restoration, and implement consistent tree maintenance and monitoring. Through these efforts, Wezesha expects to restore over 132 hectares of forest and farmland, strengthen ecosystem services and climate resilience, and improve local livelihoods by fostering sustainable land use, alternative income opportunities, and reduced pressure on natural forests.
