Established in 1995, GROOTS Kenya is a women-led non-profit organization that addresses the lack of visibility of grassroots women in processes that affect their lives. The group uses a bottom-up model that places women at the center of decision-making, allowing them to take charge of their own development. It works with over 1,500 women farmers in restoration by encouraging sustainable farming and agroforestry. With this grant, GROOTS Kenya will increase climate and food resilience for communities in four landscapes within Kenya’s Baringo and Laikipia Counties. This will involve growing trees with local groups and other partners to mitigate the area’s constant hot and dry conditions.
