GBM is an environmental organization in Kenya that empowers communities, especially women, to conserve the environment and improve livelihoods. It was founded by Professor Wangari Maathai in 1977 under the auspices of the National Council of Women of Kenya to respond to the needs of rural women dealing with the consequences of environmental degradation.

This grant will support restoration projects in Kenya’s Mau East Forest that increase species diversity, empower communities to increase household incomes by growing trees with high economic value, and secure life-giving water for the area.
