Ecological Nest is a conservation-focused organization based in Accra, dedicated to promoting the sustainable use of natural resources and supporting communities that depend on nature. With a decade of experience, the organization emphasizes science-driven restoration, strategic partnerships, and community engagement. Guided by a five-member board led by a respected conservation scientist, Ecological Nest operates under a five-year strategy that prioritizes ecorestoration. Their work is informed by research and collaboration with local stakeholders, and they have a track record of integrating conservation actions with community needs to achieve lasting environmental and social benefits.
The proposed project aims to restore degraded areas along the Bia River Tributaries, focusing on improving ecosystem services, biodiversity, and local livelihoods. Ecological Nest will work with 300 farmers from Agyeikrom, Old Papase, Papase, and Pioga to implement agroforestry practices, restore 180 hectares of riparian and cocoa landscapes, and enhance water quality along 1.8 km of the river. Activities include community engagement, nursery establishment, seedling raising, land preparation, tree planting, and ongoing maintenance, with a strong emphasis on native species and watershed restoration. The project will also support off-farm livelihoods such as beekeeping and avocado cultivation, and train communities in monitoring techniques using mobile apps and citizen science. By project end, the initiative expects to improve water quality, increase cocoa yields, and boost farmer incomes through restoration-related employment and sustainable land management.
