The Centre for Sustainability and Environmental Action (CSEA) is dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, women and youth empowerment, effective governance, and the protection and management of natural resources. With five years of experience, CSEA has established itself as a leader in community-driven restoration, leveraging research, advocacy, coalition building, and education to advance climate action and inclusiveness. The organization is recognized for its participatory approach, engaging local communities and stakeholders to foster healthier and more just societies, and has contributed to ecological restoration through initiatives that integrate local knowledge and prioritize gender inclusion.
CSEA proposes to restore 120 hectares of degraded forest landscapes in the Bosome-Freho District by implementing community-led agroforestry and alternative livelihood strategies. The project will integrate timber, fruit, and staple tree species to enhance biodiversity, improve soil and water health, and strengthen climate resilience, while also supporting local livelihoods and food security. Activities include planting over 70,000 seedlings across four communities, establishing community nurseries, training at least 500 community members—especially women and youth—in restoration and alternative income activities, and forming local governance structures to ensure long-term stewardship. The project emphasizes participatory planning, ongoing community engagement, and robust monitoring using both traditional and technological methods. Expected outcomes include improved ecosystem health, increased biodiversity, enhanced rural livelihoods, and contributions to national and global climate goals, with a strong focus on sustainability and community ownership.
