Agrointroductions Ghana (AIG) is a well-established non-profit environmental organization with a decade of experience advancing sustainable environmental practices in Ghana. Since 2014, AIG has focused on nature-based solutions, including reforestation, agroforestry, and agroecology, working in partnership with respected organizations such as the Green Climate Fund, UNDP GEF, and WWF. The organization is committed to empowering vulnerable communities, particularly in ecologically fragile areas, by promoting climate adaptation, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods. AIG’s experienced team has successfully implemented projects that have improved local livelihoods and ecosystem resilience, with a strong emphasis on community engagement and innovative, scalable interventions.
The Reforest Plus Project aims to restore 350 hectares of degraded land in the Bosome-Freho area by planting 120,000 native trees through a combination of afforestation and agroforestry, while revitalizing biodiversity and supporting sustainable livelihoods for 1,000 direct beneficiaries, especially women and youth. The project will establish community-led restoration committees, set up a nursery for native seedlings, and engage local people in site preparation, planting, and ongoing maintenance. Smallholder farmers will receive training in climate-smart agriculture and agroecology, and will be supported to diversify their incomes through the integration of high-value tree crops. The initiative also includes targeted support for women and youth through alternative livelihood training and the creation of village savings and loans schemes, alongside capacity building for community-based forest governance. The project is designed to ensure community ownership, systematic implementation, and long-term sustainability, with regular monitoring and adaptive management to track ecological and socioeconomic outcomes.
